Hexagon Music is a research prototype I developed as part of a Masters Thesis in Game Technology at Breda University of Applied Sciences (which is not yet completed). The thesis asks how unlocking and progression affects player motivation in the context of creative music-making games.
I spent quite a bit of time during this year thinking, reading, and writing about philosophy and game design, motivational psychology, and research theory, but the actual novel research I did was creating a new music-making game experience and extensively interviewing players about their play experience. Yes, it's a research game, but it's a game first, and a research tool second, so enjoy playing it, with or without the context of the research!
